Hello...Red light?!?

Today I had one of those things happen that just bug me to no end. I was driving to work this morning and it was really a gorgeous day. The radio DJs were being particularly entertaining and I was just enjoying my short drive. Unfortunately that did not last long. I first noticed this woman in front of me when she started driving a little erratically. You know the type...speed up...slow down...speed up...slam on brakes and on and on. It was only mildly irritating at first until we stopped at a red light. I have always disliked drifters. The ones who keep drifting into the intersection because they are convinced that the light should have changed by now. Well, she started to drift. There were no cars coming, so I guess she decided it was time. She then proceeded to continue drifting right through the red light and went on her merry way. I just sat there stunned. I've of course seen people run red lights, but she was just so blatant about it. Finally it turned green. She was out of my site over a hill and I was hoping she had turned somewhere. I quickly caught up with her though as she was going about 15 mph in a 30 mph zone. She was all over the road and then I saw it! A freakin cell phone in one hand and a coffee mug in the other. No wonder she couldn't drive. Who are these people that do this? Do they not understand the danger they are putting themselves and everyone around them in? I know I've complained about cell phone use before, but it just really bugged me today. Started my day off the on the wrong foot.
Ah well...
Cheers!

The Oscars

We watched the Oscars last night like we do every year. I was just catching up on the news and read some reviews on the show. I was really surprised! We really enjoyed it. We thought Ellen Degeneres did a great job. She has such a sweet way about her. The opening monologue just cracked us up. We both just adore Ellen, so maybe that's why we enjoyed it more than the critics. I admit that nothing super fun or unexpected happened, but she still did a great job. We really liked the opening documentary thing that showed all of the nominees. That was a neat idea. Everyone got seen and heard. I always kinda feel sorry for the winners of the lesser known awards. They aren't faces you see every day, so people don't really care. At least they didn't give out awards in the audience like they did last year. That was horrible and degrading! They were basically saying that they were not important enough to waste time on. One thing I really liked was how they showed the nominees for costume design. That was really cool. Usually they just show a bunch of sketches. This year they brought out about 4 models wearing the costumes on little platforms for each movie. That really gave you a much better idea of what they looked like.
Well, overall we enjoyed it! Way to go Ellen!
Cheers!

A case of the blahs?

I have had a real hard time lately getting into blogging. It seemed to start when I got sick, but now that I am feeling better it hasn't gotten any better. My daughter is sick now and my hubby started getting sick this afternoon, so I guess I have been a little busy taking care of them.
I've noticed that a lot of bloggers seem to be suffering from the blahs. I'm not seeing the upbeat fun posts I normally see around the blogosphere. Is it because it's winter. A lot of people get the blahs during the winter. I normally don't so I don't know what's up with me.
I've got a lot to be excited about too! The Oscars are on Sunday and that's a huge deal in our house. Hubby and I met at an Oscar party, so it's tradition to celebrate. We are going to Vegas in less than 2 weeks for my birthday. Of course it is the big 4-0 so maybe that's what is bugging me. The in-laws are coming for my daughter's 5th birthday at the end of March and friends are coming to visit over Easter. There is so much to look forward to. So what's my deal? I'm not in a bad mood or anything.....just blah. Maybe it's that there is a little too much going on. I do get overwhelmed quite easily. Who knows?
I'm going to devote the next few days to my sick family and the Oscars. Starting Monday I'm going to make a concentrated effort to get back on track! I can't promise they'll be interesting posts, but I'm going to do my best!
Cheers!

Friday Feast #13

Appetizer
What sound, other than the normal ringing, would you like your telephone to make?
No sound! I hate the sound of the phone ringing. Maybe if it could give me a gentle nudge when it wants to be answered.

Soup
Describe your usual disposition in meteorological terms (partly cloudy, sunny, stormy, etc.).
Partly cloudy in the morning with sun in the afternoon. A potential for stormy weather can be expected at anytime.

Salad
What specific subject do you feel you know better than any other subjects?
Interior Design, since that is what I have my degree in.

Main Course

Imagine you were given the ability to remember everything you read for one entire day. Which books/magazines/newspapers would you choose to read?
Everything in my store, so I could answer the customer that comes in and says, "I'm looking for this book about a guy and he lives in Ireland. I think it has a blue cover. What's the name of that book?" If I had a nickle for every customer that comes in and asks that sort of question I could retire a millionaire right now!

Dessert
If a popular candy maker contacted you to create their next confection, what would it be like and what would you name it?
It would be a delicious Dark chocolate truffle that was fat free and no calories and considered health food. It would be amazing tasting. Even better then the real stuff.
I'd call it Miracle Chocolate or something like that.

Uggghhhh.....

Remember how last week's Friday Feast asked if we had been sick yet this winter? I answered not yet. Boy did I screw myself! I've been horribly yucky for a couple of days now and I'm so sick of it. No pun intended. Last night I was awake all night and I had come up with a perfect Thursday Thirteen. I was thrilled that I would be able to post one and do it quickly. Well, along came morning and not a clue left in my sleep deprived brain what my idea was! Why is it when you get sick your brain just turns to mush? I've been so busy lately that when I first started feeling sick I thought okay good time to rest and recharge. Relax....read...watch some TV. NOPE! I can't comprehend anything. I always forget when I'm sick that I'm miserable and I can't really do anything but lay there and whine and complain. Does everyone else forget that or is it just me?
Please forgive my rambling. I tend to write how I think and rarely use proper punctuation. Being sick makes it worse. I'm going to try to do Friday Feast and catch up on some blog reading tonight and tomorrow.
Hope everyone had a fab Valentine's Day!
Cheers! ugh.....

Valentine Goody Swap...Yay Me!!

Look at the great stuff I got from Tiggerprr, my Valentine Swap buddy! The candle smells so good and don't get me started on the yummy chocolates. Luna went bonkers for the cute giraffe, she claimed him as hers right away. The plates are really pretty, too. The pen is so cool. I gave one to my Valentine buddy and I actually had regretted not getting one for myself while I was packing her box. Now I got one!
Thank you soooo much Tiggerprr! This was so much fun. Thank Local Girl for thinking of it too!

Friday Feast #12

Appetizer - Have you been sick yet this winter? If so, what did you come down with?

No, I've been lucky so far...I'm sure a miserable cold is right around the corner!

Soup - What colors dominate your closet?

Black & Blue...my two favorite colors.

Salad - How would you describe your personal "comfort zone"?

I'm not sure about that question...If you asking about personal space, then I would say at least 2ft around me. I really don't like being touched by anyone other then my family. I'm not what you would call a "hugger". It makes me very uncomfortable.

Main Course - On which reality show would you really like to be a contestant?

None really...I prefer scripted shows, so I don't really watch any.

Dessert - Which holiday would you consider to be your favorite?

Probably Halloween, since it is such a huge deal in our house. Christmas is pretty big too, but since the hubby is Jewish we don't do it up as much as I would like. Compromise is the key to a great marriage I have found!

Thursday Thirteen #21

Thirteen events in 2007

1. My daughter finally became an actual U.S. citizen this week! Though we have had her for 3 1/2 years it took this long for her to become an official citizen! Don't even get me started on the stupid bureaucratic red tape you have to go through in the first place to adopt a child from overseas then to have to deal with this crap to make her a citizen. Especially when they supposedly made it easier. HA! According to the law an adopted child "automatically" becomes a citizen when he/she touches U.S. soil. Bunch of bulls**t! Anyway YAY! Finally done now.

2. My 40th birthday in exactly a month...Ouch!

3. Going to Las Vegas for my Birthday! Yay!

4. My daughter's 5th Birthday...Why is she growing up so fast?

5. My hubby's whole family comes out for her big day

6. My father-in-law is retiring and we will have a little surprise for him when he comes out.

7. My mother-in-law has her 60th Birthday

8. Family friends I have known for most of my life come out for Easter

9. My in laws celebrate their 40th anniversary

10. I'm Matron of Honor at my friends wedding...Matron sounds so old!

11. My brother-in-law is finally getting married. Yes, to the woman I have written about before and no, things have not gotten better. I hope to try again when they come out for Luna's birthday...but getting tired of doing all of the trying.

12. Cruise!! We were supposed to go for my birthday, but we found that the government could not guarantee getting our daughter's papers in time.

13. My husband's 13th book gets published...I'm so proud of him.

Brought to You by the Letter "R"

Saw this over on An Island Life and thought I would give it a try too. Local girl gave me "R" which at first I thought was pretty tough, but then it got easier as I started thinking about it.

Here are 10 things I like/love that start with the letter “R”:

1. Reeses Peanut Butter Cups...The very first thing that popped into my head! Gee...think I like them much?
2. Red...I absolutely love a deep dark red!
3. Rockies...The Colorado baseball team. My husband has gotten me to love baseball in the last year!
4. The other Rockies...The mountains in Colorado.
5. Reading...I love to read, which might be why I have a bookstore!
6. Ramblings...My blog of course, which I have come to love sooo much!
7. Rain...Nothing better then a good rain shower and a little of #5.
8. My last name starts with an R, though I probably should not say what it is. I love the man who gave it to me! ;)
9. Restaurants...I LOVE to go out to eat, doesn't matter where it is.
10. Rings...I love all different types of rings and I usually wear quite a few. It's my very favorite gift to get!

If you’d like to play too, just let me know and I’ll assign you a letter. I promise it won’t be a hard letter like Q or X!

Friday Feast #11

Appetizer
What was one of the fashion fads when you were a teenager?
Putting your collar up....unfortunately way too many pics of me out there like that.

Soup
Name one thing you think people assume about you when they first meet you.
That I am cold. I've been told my shyness comes across that way when you first meet me. I'm actually completely the oposite when you get to know me.

Salad
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being highest, how hard do you work?
8, I think. I like to spend a little time chit chatting with employees or customers. It's good for moral I think.

Main Course
If you were given a free 30-second commercial during the Super Bowl to sell anything you currently own, what would you advertise?
Uh....sell books at my bookstore of course.

Dessert
Fill in the blank: I love to read a mystery when it is raining.

Thursday Thirteen #20

Thirteen things I HATE about winter this year.

1. The fact that it has snowed at least once every week since Dec. 20th.
2. The amazingly cold weather we have had.
3. Driving in the ruts that the cars have created in the snow packed streets.
4. Constantly shoveling snow.
5. How the horrible weather has really hurt my business during our busiest time of the year.
6. Our parking lot keeps getting smaller and smaller from the large mounds of snow.
7. Having to wear boots every bloody day!
8. Wearing layers and layers of clothes every bloody day!
9. That every time it snows it covers up the ice, so you can't help but slip and slide.
10. Did I mention the arctic cold?
11. Stuffing my daughter into a snow suit until she can barely move.
12. That our poor dog can't run and play in our back yard.
13. That we have to constantly clear the snow off of our Satellite Dish so we can watch TV.
