Snow, Snow, Snow!

I have been so busy lately. With the holidays it just seems I have not had a moment to myself or to blog. I can't seem to get anything done! For the last few days the weather people have been forecasting a major storm. In Colorado we hear this a lot. Usually it doesn't happen. I've heard that because of the mountains weather can change here quickly making it hard to predict. Well....this time they were right. It's huge! I started out the day thinking it would just be a little, so I went to work. A 10 minute drive turned into an hour. My daughter's school closed, they were offering babysitting during the Christmas vacation, so I took her in with me. It was so bad, I thought I would never get to work. Once we got there we all realized it was a bad idea, so we quickly filled orders and closed up shop. I just got home after another hour on the road. The governor has declared an emergency and the police are supposed to start handing out tickets if they find you on the roads. I have no idea how they intend to do that! Driving home there was so much traffic. Looking out our front windows I see people driving by all of the time. Stupid people! Speaking of stupid people, they just showed the mall on the news and it was packed! All of the malls in the area have announced that they are closing and people are upset! GO HOME!!!
Anyway, I am happy. I LOVE snow! Yay! White Christmas! Hubby's on his way home, so once he's here I'll be really happy. That will mean all of my loved ones are home and safe.
From what I hear on the news the blizzard will continue for another 24 hours! Yikes! Might not be working tomorrow either. Well, I wanted time to get things done....I got it!
Cheers!

Time for Christmas Tree decorating

Today we put the tree up and decorated it. This was my daughter's first time really helping and she did most of it. She kept putting them all in the same place so I had to encourage her to spread the love. In the end I think she did a great job!
Since our family is of mixed religions later this week we will decorate the dining room with Hanukkah stuff. Unfortunately there is not much in the way of decorations available. We like to keep the dining room just for that since that is where we light the menorah. This way we can try to help our daughter understand that they are not the same holiday. It can be tough when it falls over Christmas, but we make do. We keep all celebration completely separate.
In case you are wondering, my whole family is Danish and in Denmark we put the Danish flag on our Christmas trees. There is an American one in there as well, but you can't see it in the pic. This is a typical Danish tree like the ones I grew up with.
Cheers!

Christmas songs Meme

Well, looks like I got tagged for this one by Localgirl. Which is actually cool, because I love Christmas and everything about it!

Name 5 of your favorite Christmas Songs (I think I'll pick the none religious ones this time).

1. White Christmas - Bing Crosby
2. The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire) - Johnny Mathis
3. Let it Snow, Let it Snow - Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme
4. Silver Bells - Doris Day
5. Rockin Around the Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee

I grew up listening to my parents Christmas records from the 60s. All of these songs bring back fond family memories.

crappy day....

I thought today was my final big dentist appointment. I was told it would be about two hours to put in the caps on the three implants I got earlier. I was also supposed to get a little filling. I don't like going to the dentist and I did not sleep well last night. It was all I could think about. I went prepared. I even brought 2 movies ("Meet the Parents" and "Down with Love") instead of one in case for some reason one did not work or something. I know they have DVDs there, but I get really nervous.
They called at 8 a.m. this morning. They wanted to change my appt. to 9 a.m. I have severe OCD when it comes to dentists/doctors. It's really hard to control my compulsions and I have to prepare and work myself up to go. I cannot under any circumstances change it. I know that's crazy, but I really can't do it without being a complete basket case.
I promptly appeared at 11 a.m. after making a very lame excuse. After that everything started going badly. Instead of two hours I was there for more than four. Thank goodness for the extra movie! More Novocaine shots than I care to remember. Only one cap was put in instead of three and the filling was not done. The other caps were messed up and need to be redone.
In two weeks we will try again. Just when I think my two year nightmare is over it gets dragged out even longer. I admire anyone that can go to the dentist without a thought.
Cheers!

Holiday Party thoughts

So last night we had our annual holiday party. We have done this almost every year since we got married. Every year our guests behaviour bewilders me. Just when I think I have it all figured out they go and surprise me. I always make quite a large spread of food because I hate parties where all they serve are some chips and dip. Pretty much the same people come each year with some new ones sprinkled in now and then, so it follows that they would have the same habits from year to year. Doesn't it? Nope. Not at all. Every year the food habits change. What goes like hot cakes one year sits and goes untouched another. I just don't get it. For many years I have made my "famous" guacamole that everyone has always raved about. It's always disappeared quickly. Last night it barely got touched. How come? It's the exact same recipe. No changes. Same with the mini quiches. It's just weird.
Usually I have to fight to get into the kitchen, last night not one person spent any time in there. There were a lot of people that came and everyone seemed to have a good time. Normally our holiday party lasts to well after midnight, but last night everyone was gone by midnight. Granted it has been snowing a lot lately and the roads are pretty icy, so I can understand that I guess.
Oh well, the thrills and chills of throwing a party.
Cheers!

Friday Feast #5

Appetizer
Have you ever flown in a helicopter?
Nope and I don't want to either.

Soup
What color is your warmest coat or jacket?
Black like most things I own.

Salad
What is your favorite rainy day activity?
Reading a mystery.

Main Course
Describe your hands.
Five fingers on each. My fingers are very long and everyone has always told me how soft they are, but I do work a lot with my hands. I have no polish on at the moment and the nails are all medium length with a rounded tip. I have my platinum diamond wedding rings on my left ring finger. On my right ring finger I have the white gold Sapphire and diamond ring my husband gave me when we got our daughter and a thick silver band on my thumb. Sometimes I wear a gold blue topaz ring too, but I am not a gold fan.

Dessert
If you could eat only one nut for the rest of your life, what nut
would you pick?
Cashew, but even a plain salted peanut would do too.
